Frozen seafood cannot be brought on board as carry-on luggage, but it can be checked in. Below are the detailed regulations regarding carrying frozen seafood on board:
Checked-in Regulations
Must be checked: According to aviation safety regulations, fresh seafood, including frozen seafood, cannot be brought on board as carry-on luggage and must be checked in.
Packing Requirements:
Frozen seafood checked in must be tightly packed. Ice and water must not be allowed inside the container to prevent melted ice from spilling out and contaminating aircraft equipment, luggage, or other equipment.
You may use foam or plastic boxes as outer packaging, and use ice packs or ice-filled mineral water bottles (with the caps securely fastened) inside the box to keep it fresh at low temperatures. However, please note that water-based ice is not allowed.
It is best to cover the foam box with a plastic bag before placing it in the box to prevent water seepage. You can also place a plastic bag over the foam box for double protection.
Weight Limit: The weight of each checked piece of fresh, perishable items (including frozen seafood), including the shipping packaging, should not exceed 20 kg. If you need to carry large quantities of live seafood, you should ship it through airport cargo.
Transfer and Through Transport: Seafood items generally do not undergo through-transfer transport when transported as baggage. If through-transfer transport is required, written consent from the connecting airline is required; domestic flights only accept this transport without changing aircraft.
Advance Notification: You must notify the airline or airport staff in advance before checking in your items.
Notes
Prohibited Imports: According to relevant regulations, aquatic animal products (except dried, cooked, or fermented aquatic animal products in edible sauces) are prohibited from being carried or mailed into the country. Therefore, for international flights, passengers should pay special attention to the import regulations of their destination and avoid carrying prohibited frozen seafood.
Check Airline Regulations: Regulations regarding the checked transportation of frozen seafood may vary between airlines. It is recommended to thoroughly investigate the airline's regulations before purchasing tickets or checking in your items.
